Amid France’s political crisis, following the collapse of support for Sébastien Lecornu’s government and a wave of mass demonstrations across the country, we spoke with Jean-Lin Lacapelle — former Member of the European Parliament for the National Rally and member of the EU–Serbia delegation.

Lacapelle, known for his sharp rhetoric and uncompromising views, speaks openly about the rise of the National Rally’s popularity, the failures of previous governments, his strategy for restoring national sovereignty, and his vision of a future Europe built on the freedom of nations.

At a time when support for far-right parties surpasses that of the ruling coalition, and the French people express their discontent through protests and political mobilization, Lacapelle declares: “It is time to return power to the people.”

Interview

Journalist: How do you interpret the fact that support for far-right parties has now surpassed that of the ruling coalition in France?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “For 40 years, the Left and the Right have alternated in power with the same policies, the same failures, and the same blindness. All have betrayed their promises and their voters. This is how, election after election, the Rassemblement National has grown to become the leading political party in France. We are neither right-wing nor left-wing. We are a movement of popular unity.”

Journalist: What implications does this shift have for the broader French political landscape?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “Despite electoral victories, the System remains entrenched in power. Incapable of listening to the voice of the people. The coalition leading the government is pure hypocrisy. It is a coalition of losers. Hence the anger of the French people who feel scorned. The French vote, and their vote is not respected.”

Journalist: From a strategic and ideological standpoint, how do you analyze this evolution in more detail?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “The concerns of the French people are purchasing power, immigration, and insecurity.
Only the RN addresses these issues. The governments in place have created a historic deficit of €3,300 billion (including €1,300 billion under Macron), and at the same time, France is the country with the highest taxes in the world. The French are fed up with paying, covering debts, and compensating for incompetence. Their purchasing power decreases year after year, and making ends meet is increasingly difficult.

There are more than 10 million poor people in France (earning less than €1,000 per month).
Alongside purchasing power issues, the French are facing completely insane immigration.
More than 500,000 legal entries per year into France! Not to mention the thousands of undocumented migrants who also come to benefit from the many social advantages and the limitless generosity of the French state. Immigration is now finally recognized as partly responsible for the insecurity problems that break records year after year.

All these problems are known but never resolved because none of the governments have had the courage to denounce them and implement strong, non-lax policies that prioritize our fellow citizens.”

Journalist: What leadership initiatives or missions do you plan to undertake to guide the right-wing movement in the coming years?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “In this, we are the political party that embodies hope and, in the eyes of a majority of French people, the only one capable of restoring the country. The current government of Sébastien Lecornu is a copy of the previous ones and will fall within weeks because unnatural alliances never last.
We demand the dissolution of the National Assembly to ask the people to vote again.”

Journalist: What changes would you advocate in France’s relationship with the European Union if your party came to executive power?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “The European Union has become an obstacle and is trying to seize all of the State’s most sovereign powers. It takes advantage of every crisis to weaken our national sovereignty. The EU used Covid to seize control over health policy, the energy crisis to take over everything related to energy, and the war in Ukraine to claim authority over defense. The European Union was originally conceived to protect peoples and nations. We have never been so weak! The dream of a Europe with 27 countries, then 34, is nonsense. The EU seeks to mold all countries into the same shape, and those who step out of line are threatened and sanctioned. This is what it is trying to do with Serbia, threatening to deny its accession if it maintains commercial relations with Russia and refuses to recognize Kosovo as a nation.
What a disgrace!
The Union is anything but democratic. Everything must go through Brussels, and countries are crushed by the weight of regulations, unfair competition, and the ideological blindness of those who run Brussels.”

Journalist: Do you envision a future in which France regains more national sovereignty from Brussels, and how would that be implemented?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “It is time to take power. When Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella come to power, we will change the EU from within. We want a Europe of free and sovereign nations. A Europe of cooperation that shares major projects in space, digital technology, AI…But above all, a Europe that respects peoples and their sovereignty. We will ensure that national legislative texts take precedence over those from Brussels, because each country must retain its independence and have the freedom to define its strategy and priorities.”

Journalist: What specific policies do you propose to manage immigration while balancing human rights and national security?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “We will stop the insane migration policy and repeal the Asylum and Migration Pact, which is a heresy. Stop the undocumented migrants, stop the laxity at the borders. We will reform the Schengen Treaty, as well as all treaties that are harmful and threaten our national identity and freedoms. Border control (and therefore security) is a sovereign power that must return to the States.”

Journalist: Do you believe that French national identity is under threat, and what measures are necessary to preserve it?

Jean-Lin Lacapelle: “More and more patriots are rising across Europe to resist. Europe will survive only if the freedom of nations and their peoples is respected. Otherwise, it will perish, caught between the United States and China.”
